Côte d’Hodister – Cycling route from Beffe

This approximately 40km cycling loop starting from Beffe takes you through the peaceful villages of the middle Ourthe valley (Famenne-Ardennes), along a 100% paved route combining small country roads, winding valleys, and sustained climbs. A highlight: the gentle and consistent climb of Hodister .

Route and main segments

From Beffe , you take the plateau roads towards Magoster , before gently continuing along the ridge to Wy . The road remains easy to cycle to Soy , then to Ny , where you join the Ny–Hotton cycle path which takes you gently down into the valley at Hotton .

Following the Ourthe river to Hampteau , the road slopes and climbs via Hamoul towards Chéoux on a gentle, even incline . At the edge of the village begins the Hodister climb : a continuous, winding ascent, sheltered from traffic, which leads up to the hamlet of Hodister .

You then descend towards Warisy and continue down the valley to Marcourt , where you cross near the Espace René Moureaux . The final climb is through the Bois d'Arlogne before reaching the Beffe plateau (return possible via the Les Planesses variant if desired).

  • Length: 4.6 km
  • Elevation gain: 199 m
  • Steepest section: 9%
  • Average slope: 4.3%

Points of interest along the route

  • The Ourthe , between Hotton, Hampteau and Marcourt
  • Hotton , a lively town in the valley
  • Hodister , a discreet hamlet at the top of the hill
  • Marcourt , its footbridge and the René Moureaux area (nature break)
  • Villages passed through: Beffe, Magoster, Wy, Soy, Ny, Hotton, Hampteau, Hamoul, Chéoux, Hodister, Warisy, Marcourt, Bois d'Arlogne, Beffe

The Côte d'Hodister , though modest on paper, is known to local cyclists for its winding route and the tranquility that reigns there. It's a pleasant climb that surprises with its peaceful atmosphere, in the heart of the Ourthe valley.
