If there is one iconic beer from the Ardennes , it is Chimay ! This Trappist beer comes in several varieties of blondes and browns, but also in cheeses, and has been since 1862! Its Trappist name is well deserved: it is brewed according to the rules of the art.
At Espace Chimay , you can discover the history and secrets of brewing this beer and its abbey, Scourmont Abbey . After your visit, enjoy a Chimay on tap at the Auberge du Poteaupré , perhaps accompanied by a delicious meal. Don't miss the shop where you can buy some "green," "blue," or "red" Chimay beers, as well as one of the cheeses made from the beer's brewing process, such as 1876 or Cendré .
Finally, complete your visit with a trip to Scourmont Abbey, not far away, where it all began. You can stroll through the abbey's wooded grounds and visit the church . The monks there follow the Cistercian order and lead a simple life, centered on prayer and work.
